Sandwiches are the daily staple of many a UK lunch, whether made at home or purchased from on the go take away outlets. We buy an estimated 3.5 billion sandwiches ever year, and 325,000 people work in the sandwich / food to go market. The average price paid is apparently £2.27!
Sandwich packaging has various objectives :
- Deliver the sandwich to the customer in perfect condition
- Protection whilst in transit
- Food and package labelling and regulatory information
According to the FPA, the UK labelling requirements by law for your sandwiches are as follows:
- Name of the food
- Use by date
- List of ingredients
- Nutritional information
- Allergy information
- Storage guidance (recent Pret allergen case)
- Name and address of manufacturer / packer / seller
The sandwich segment of the food to go market is so busy, there is even a sandwich trade association and annual awards!
We currently sell a wide range of sandwich packaging and all can be found on the buy on-line section of our web site. This includes traditional push shut hinged sandwich packaging, film sealable open plastic packaging and biodegradable cardboard based sandwich packaging.
We will soon be launching a new, smaller, lightweight sandwich packaging for standard, deep fill and triple fillings – the tri-cut sandwich. The video below shows how simple it is to use – its card inner is made from recyclable plastic and is compostable. The presentation for retail packaging is crystal clear and accommodates a custom label for information purposes. We will post on our social media accounts when it is available to buy on our web site.
